The Paris Cafe - South Street Seaport, New York, New York

We had brunch at The Paris Cafe located at 119 South Street on a lovely Sunday morning in June. The restaurant is located in a beautifully preserved historic building just steps from the East River. It has been open since 1873 in one form or another and the architecture alone is a reason to stop in.
We were a large party of eight and very lucky to secure a row of tables outside so we could enjoy the sunshine and people watch before the day got too hot.

The price on Prosecco couldn't be beat so some of us took advantage of that and had mimosas while a few others had bloody marys. I should also note any brunch meal is served with a choice of drink including Bloody Mary, Mimosa, Screwdriver or Bellini. The prices on the menu are quite reasonable already and that is just an added plus! We enjoyed our time having morning brunch cocktails in each other's company and eventually ordered up some food.

Our selections were a mix of french toast, eggs benedict, omlet, chicken fingers, fried mozzarella, and a hummus platter. Oh, and of course the Steak and Eggs for Moi!

The steak comes with 2 eggs, cooked your way, buttermilk biscuit and potatoes. The steak was cooked just right - medium rare and charred on the outside. The meat was a little tough but not unusual for a hanger steak. The portion was very large and I was able to share about a third of it with Mauricio. All the other sides were perfect. The eggs were moist and fluffy but not too wet. The potatoes were crispy outside and soft inside. I tried to eat just a bite of the biscuit but it was so good it was hard to hold back. The biscuit was salty, not sweet and paired with an amazing strawberry jam that balanced the salt without being too sugary.

Everyone else enjoyed their selections and no one was disappointed. The waiters were friendly and laid back providing excellent service as well. The Paris Cafe is within walking distance of our friend's condo so we will definitely be back!
