In October of 2017, we made a trip to Basque Country. After two days in San Sebastian, Spain, we traveled to Biarritz, France. Although we were both feeling under the weather, we made the best of the day and explored town before settling down for a beer at California Kitchen Biarritz.
We had met the guys running the restaurant the day before while enjoying a snack and beers. California Kitchen is a small venue a quiet street with a fun indoor atmosphere and tables outside. It was pretty early in the evening and we were trying to push through to dinner. We decided to have an early dinner there, pick up a bottle of wine, and go back to the hotel. We were very happy to see that the eclectic menu had a steak! We even waited for the cook to come in so we could try it.
I've read some reviews that say the service here is slow. While it is true the service was on the slower side, where are they rushing off to? California Kitchen is a place to sit back, relax, enjoy some beverages and people watch while you wait for the magic to happen.
The T-Bone was the only steak on offer but did not disappoint. It was seasoned perfectly with salt and fresh ground pepper. Served with a side of chimichurri on a stone plate that kept the meat hot, it was cooked to the perfect temperature. The fresh salad and fries were just what we needed to round out the meal.
After the previous night's disappointment at Le Cafe du Commerce, we were so happy to end the short trip to Biarritz on a positive, delicious note! If you have the chance to try California Kitchen Biarritz, it will be understandably difficult to pass on the sandwiches or tacos but if you love steak, you won't be disappointed!
