Mark Joseph Steakhouse - Financial District, New York, New York

During our trip to New York in June 2019, we celebrated Mauricio's birthday with some of our closest friends. Mark Joseph Steakhouse is his favorite steakhouse in the city so, naturally, we made reservations for dinner on the big night.

Mark Joseph Steakhouse is located at 261 Water Street, just north of the South Street Seaport. The moment we walked in, we were made to feel right at home by the maitre d. The dinner reservation was an early 7 PM. While we waited for the rest of our party to arrive, we took a small table at the bar and ordered a drink.  The atmosphere at the bar was laid back, with most patrons stopping in for a drink after work.

After we were all gathered, they escorted us to a large round table near the front window. For appetizers we ordered Sizzling Canadian Bacon and Fresh Mozzarella with Beefsteak Tomatoes. The Mozzarella and Tomatoes was a basic caprese salad but a generous sharable serving that all six of us enjoyed. The Canadian Bacon was you have to taste to believe. It was an absolutely amazing combination of meat, fat and salt. So delicious and savory, we ordered a second!

The restaurant uses Prime meat and dry ages it in-house. Mauricio has always raved about the taste and presentation of the Porterhouse so we had to order that. The menu states the Porterhouse requires a two person minimum. When it arrives, you will know why. It is a massive slab of steak perfection served on a sizzling hot platter infused with metal. The server slices the filet and strip equally and it comes with a spoon to scoop up the juices. The steak was some of the best I've ever had. The meat melts in your mouth in an abundance of flavor. We added mashed potatoes and Brussels sprouts (the special for the evening).

Two of our party ordered the 16oz filet mignon, medium rare, and their steaks were perfectly charred on the outside and a perfect temp on the inside. For sides they chose the creamed spinach and sauteed asparagus. All of the sides were quite large and we shared them all. We paired all the steaks with a 2018 Domaine Bousquet Malbec. The wine is from Valle de Urco and was a perfect complement to amazing steaks.

Finally, the two less steak-fanatic of the group ordered the Lamb Chops and Lobster Mac & Cheese. The lamb chops were reportedly some of the best he had ever eaten and were cooked perfectly. The Lobster Mac & Cheese was a huge portion and she couldn't finish all but said it was quite tasty.

Overall, the experience was outstanding from the amazing food and wine, to the exceptional service. If you live in, or are visiting Manhattan, it is worth a trip down to the South Street Seaport for dinner at Mark Joseph Steakhouse. I can't say I've eaten at all the steakhouses in the city but this one has to be one of the best! The website also states you can have their Prime cuts delivered to you in certain areas. I hope they deliver to Florida!
